JET Distribution Services Inc. DOT HM-232 Safety and Security Plan

Hazmat Strategy

This plan has been developed in accordance with the new requirement effective September 25, 2003 to efficiently control and secure hazardous material while in the custody of JET Distribution, a public warehouse company.

JET Distribution has implemented strict guidelines for the safe and secure storage and handling of hazardous materials in addition to our on-going programs that had been in place.

Warehousemen Awareness

The warehousemen will adhere to the following instructions when handling hazardous materials both on incoming and outgoing shipments.

  • Make sure that all containers are in sound condition with the proper labels and all other required information on each container.
  • All hazardous materials must be stored on sound pallets in designated areas visible to authorized personnel on a daily basis.
  • All proper documentation in the form of a straight bill of lading along with MSDS sheets accompanies each and every shipment.
  • Insure that not one item ever leaves the warehouse without the proper release form and a straight bill of lading.
  • Carefully read bills of lading to make sure that they conform to the proper "hazmat" description, UN number, Packing Group and type.

Administrative Awareness

  • All hazardous material shipments arriving or departing our facility will be reviewed by both the manager and clerk while adhering to the following procedures.
  • Enforce the new identification requirement for all employees, paying particular attention to new hires.
  • Make sure that material is described properly as required by the DOT and has the correct bill of lading and accompanying MSDS sheet.
  • Insure that material is properly placed in computer inventory with the proper description and back-up paperwork properly filed for quick access.
  • Make sure that only trained and experienced personnel handle these shipments.
  • Prepare outbound bills of lading showing the proper description, UN number and all other pertinent information.
  • Follow through with the pick-up driver to make sure that he displays his place cards if the weight of the shipment requires them.
  • Record the license number of the power unit as a record on the shipping documents.

General Awareness

Warehousemen and the office communicate by two-way radio and will utilize these tools as another security measure. All employees are security conscious and are on the alert to any strangers entering our premises at any time. JET warehouse personnel are also required to wear identification tags, and sanctioned JET attire.

JET Distribution has trained personnel in handling and securing "hazmat" materials and an annual seminar is conducted by an outsourced company whereby attendance is mandatory.

JET Distribution is aware of its obligation to employee and public safety with the proper handling and documentation of hazardous materials. We endeavor to always be mindful of the legal requirements, maintain a good sanitation program and secure our facility with state or the art surveillance by ADT.
